The Changing Time, Mind and Events

There are three principles that are closely interlinked
 Time, Mind and Events. None of the three are stagnant, they change. Time, Events and the Mind move all the time.

When the Mind is stuck to Events, then there is suffering. If the Mind flows with Time, it is fresh and alive.

Time and Events have a tendency of getting linked to the mind. For example, your birthday. Every year, when the date comes, you remember,
Oh, it is my birthday!
Celebrations are an imposition of Events on Time. For example, Christmas celebrations, Buddha Purnima celebrations or Guru Purnima celebrations - they all are Events sticking on to Time, through the Mind. It is the Mind that remembers,
Oh, today is Buddha Purnima.

Whether it is a celebration, or it is some bad memory, the Mind sticks to that Event.
'9/11', an Event happened on that particular date, and so, that particular Event got stuck to Time. Every year, you remember '9/11' or '26/11' - you are sticking that date to the past.

Similarly, national days - 1st of July, Canada says it is our national day; 4th of July, America says, it is our national day. 15th of August, India says it is their Independence Day. The Mind connects an Event to Time. And this connection could be pleasant or unpleasant.

*Moving Past Unpleasant Events*

Pleasant connections don't stay too long, but unpleasant connections create a scar on the mind, and stays longer. Now, what is the place of wisdom in all this? Wisdom makes your mind non-sticky.

Have you seen non-stick frying pans, in which you can make pancakes? When those non-stick pans were not available, people still used to make pancakes. The pancakes would get stuck on to the pan, and they would scrub it out. The cleaners had more work to do, to make it ready for the next use.
So, Events are like pancakes that stick to the pan. Now, just imagine, if you don
t clean the pan (referring to the Mind), and you continue making more pancakes day after day on the same pan and consuming it. My goodness, how unhygienic!

For years you are using the same pan. One side of the pan is all burnt because of the stuck pancakes, and it smells because you have not cleaned your pan. Yet you continue making pancakes (causing pain to yourself), and you are serving such pancakes to others (causing pain to others).

This is what is happening. You have forgotten to make your Mind a non-stick pan.

*Recognizing the Role of Wisdom in Life*

It is wisdom that blows the Events out of your Mind, and helps you flow with the Time.

Just imagine, there is a river in which there are boulders and little puddles. Water gets stuck in those little puddles, and then what happens? It starts having fungus, algae and the water is not clean, pure, and fresh anymore. This is because it is stagnating in one place.

When the river is flowing (when you let go of the past), the water (Mind) is clean and pure; the water moves over all those boulders and runs to the ocean.
The Mind is also like that - it gets stuck in a few events. It cannot get stuck for too long; somewhere, it has to move on, right? Pleasant or unpleasant. And wisdom helps you to move with Time and through Time.

*Looking Beyond Time*

Whatever events happened in 2017 is all gone. There were some pleasant days, some unpleasant days; some happy days, some worthwhile days, and some days when you did nothing; these have not left any impression on your mind because nothing worthwhile happened on those days. The other days, the impressions are on your mind, because you think something worthwhile happened. Wisdom makes you realise that nothing is worthwhile, or rather everything is nothing.

Do you know, pleasant moments make you more unhappy than unhappy moments? Pleasant moments make you unhappy because they are gone.
With unpleasant moments, time heals you. But the craving for the pleasant moments, time carries them along with you for a long time; to heal from it takes a long time. Impressions from pleasant moments cause cravings in you, and the cravings don't go so easily.

This is why, the wise one sees all Events to be unpleasant
 because whether pleasant or unpleasant, they are all gone. At that time, cravings makes you miserable.
What do you say? Almost everyone of you agrees with me on this.

*The Art of Letting Go*

The funniest thing is, our Mind does not want to let go of the Events.

Recently, this one gentleman became an Art of Living teacher. Once you become an Art of Living teacher, self-pity is not allowed. If you pity yourself, how can you bring happiness to someone else? If the doctor is chronically sick, how can he conduct surgery on you? Impossible.

Now, this person used to get a lot of pity and compassion from others. It used to make him feel so good. Everyone would give him so much attention and sympathy. After becoming a teacher, it was a dichotomy - it was very difficult to let go of the enjoyment that was coming from people feeling sorry for all his misery.

Why am I saying all this? This is because I want you to see how the Mind works. The Mind wants to stick to unpleasant things because it gets some attention. If people pity you, you enjoy it somewhere.
See, as a child, you have been getting this attention. When a child starts crying, everyone comes and attends to it. They tell the child,
Don't cry, and the child gets the lollipop, or the toys it was crying for. Somehow, this got programed in you that if I throw tantrums and become miserable, I will get what I want.

These are Events that are creating impressions on the Mind. Wisdom is you getting out of all the impressions. When you get out of the impressions, then you are flowing with Time. In fact, you go ahead of Time - that is wisdom.

*Celebrate Each Day Like A New Year Day*

This New Year, make your mind like a non-stick pan, and enjoy your pancakes, fresh and new. And don't even remember that you never washed your pan in the past; that too is gone. In this sense, every day is a New Year day for you, every day is a celebration. Today is today. Calendars and calculations don't exist then.

When you are happy, you don't feel that you are growing old. You don't feel Time is dragging. You don't feel Time at all - it could be millions of years; nothing has touched you or shaken you, and you have no plans. And even if you have a plan, Time runs so fast. When Time runs so fast, it also stands still.

In the morning, when you wake up, just sit and feel how Time stands so still. When Time stands still, it is meditation.

When time runs fast, you don't feel the time, that is karma yoga. And when time stands still, that is dhyan yoga, meditation.

See, if you are not used to the stillness of time, if you are only on the run all the time, you will get depressed. We have this tremendous ability of enjoying both
 running and being still.

As you grow older, the body has its limitations. If you have no ability of being still and don't enjoy being still even for a short time, you will feel bored, confused and depressed. That is what happens to all the so-called very active people when their bodies don
t allow them to be active anymore, and they cannot be still either.
This is where your Mind is not with the Time. So, your Mind should be with Time. When the Mind is with the Time, it can be still.

*May This Year Be A Wisdom Filled Year - WFY*

Let this year be a Wisdom Filled Year for everyone. With wisdom comes happiness. You don't have to specially wish everyone a Happy New Year; happiness comes with wisdom. If wisdom does not bring happiness, nothing else can bring it. Wisdom brings real and the ultimate happiness. So, wish everyone a Wisdom Filled Year.

Questions: How to increase wisdom?

Wisdom is not about the books you read. Wisdom is an expanded state of consciousness. It is your mind being non-sticky, not getting stuffed but becoming hollow and empty. The moment you think of wisdom, you think of reading books, no! That is just information. Wisdom is being still and being non-sticky to Events.

변해가는 시간, 마음 그리고 상황들

시간 , 마음 , 상황들로 - 밀접하게 이어진 세가지 원칙이 있습니다.
세가지 원칙 어느 것도 머물지 않고 변해갑니다.
시간, 상황들 그리고 마음은 계속 움직여 갑니다.
마음이 상황에 묶이게 되면 고난이 따르게 됩니다.
마음이 시간과 함께 흐른다면, 신선하고  살아 있습니다.
시간과 상황들은 마음으로 연결되는 경향이 있습니다.
예를 든다면, 당신 생일입니다.
해마다 생일날이면 “아, 나의 생일입니다!”를 기억하게 됩니다.
축제란 시간에서 상황이 일어나는 것입니다.
예로, 크리스마스 축제나 구루푸니마 축제, 부다 푸니마는 - 마음으로 시간에 엮여진 상황들입니다.
마음이 “오늘이 부다 푸니마입니다” 임을 기억하는 겁니다.

마음은 그것이 축제이었든, 또는 나쁜 기억이었든  상황으로 연결되어 있습니다.
9/11’는 어떤 상황이  특정한 날에 일어난 일이고,  특정한 상황은 시간에 매여있습니다. 해마다 당신은 9/11이나 26/11  기억하며 - 당신은 과거의 그날과 엮이게 됩니다.
비슷한 경우로, 국경일로-캐나다 에서는 7 1; 미국에서는 7 4일이라 말합니다.
인도에서는 8 15 독립기념일이 우리의 국경일입니다.
마음은 상황들을 시간으로 연결하게 됩니다. 그리고  연결성은 좋을 수도 있고  나쁠 수도 있습니다.

*
과거의 좋지 않았던 상황을 옮겨갑니다*

좋았던 연결은 오래 머물지 않지만, 좋지 않았던 연결은 마음에 상처를 내고  오래 머물게 됩니다.
 순간,  모든 것에 지혜의 역할이 무엇입니까?
지혜는 당신의 마음을 끈적거리지 않게 합니다.
당신은 팬케이크를 만드는, 달라붙지 않는 프라이팬을 보셨지요?
붙지 않는 프라이팬이 없더라도, 사람들은 여전히 팬케이크를 만들 수 있었습니다.
팬케이크가 팬에 눌러 붙으면 그들은 긁어내려 합니다.
닦는 사람들은  열심히 닦아내야 하고 다음 번 사용하기 위해 준비해 놓아야 합니다.
그런 의미로, 상황들은 팬에 붙어버리는 팬케이크와 같습니다.
지금,  팬을 닦지 않았다고 (마음으로 연결지어) 상상을  보십시요. 그리고 당신은 같은 팬을 계속해서 매일같이 팬케이크를 만든다면, 얼마나  위생적이겠습니까!

당신은 몇 년을 똑같은 팬을 사용하고 있습니다.
붙어버린 팬케이크로 팬의 한쪽이   버렸고, 당신은 팬을 닦지 않아서 냄새가 납니다.
당신은 여전히 계속 팬케이크를 만들고(당신 자신에게 고통을 주는), 당신은  팬케이크를 다른 사람들에게(그들에게 고통을 초래하며) 줍니다.
당신이, 당신의 마음을 붙지 않은 팬으로 만드는 것을 잊었을  이렇게 일어나는 현상입니다.

*
삶에서 지혜의 역할을 인지하는 것입니다*

지혜는 당신의 마음에서 상황을 날려보내고,  당신이 시간과 함께 흐를 수 있도록 도와줍니다.
단순히 작은 웅덩이와 돌멩이들이 있은 강을 상상해 보십시요.
작은 웅덩이에 물이 막히면서, 어떤 일이 일어납니까?
조류와 곰팡이가 생기기 시작하고  이상 물은 맑지도 깨끗하지도, 신선하지도 않습니다.
한곳으로 침체되기 때문입니다.
강물이 흐르면서(당신이 과거를 내려 놓으면서), 물은(마음은) 깨끗해지고 맑아집니다; 물은 많은 돌맹이 위로 움직이면서 대양으로 흘러나갑니다.
마음도 
몇 가지 상황에 막혀지지 않는 것과-같은 것입니다. 오랜 시간 붙어 있지 못합니다; 좋던 싫던 어느 곳에서 움직여져야 하겠지요?
지혜는 당신이 시간과 시대를 넘어 흘러갈 수 있도록 도와 줍니다.

*
시간  이상을 봅니다*

2017
년에 있었던 모든 일들이 지나갔습니다.
즐거웠던 날들도 있었고, 불쾌했던 날들도 있었습니다; 행복했던 날들도 있었고, 의미 깊은 날들도 있었습니다, 아무것도 하지 않은 날들도 있었습니다;  날들은 아무 의미도 없는 날이었기에 어떤 인상도 남기지 않았습니다.
다른 날들은 당신이 의미 있는 일이 났다고 생각하기 때문에 당신의 마음에 인상을 남깁니다.
지혜는 당신에게 아무것도 의미가 없음을, 모든 것이 아무것이 아님을 깨우쳐 줍니다.
당신은 줄거웠던 시간들이 불행했던 순간보다 당신을  불행하게 함을 알고 계십니까?
행복했던 순간들이 당신을 불행하게 만드는 것은  순간들이 지나갔기 때문입니다.
불행했던 순간들과 함께 시간이 당신을 치유합니다.
그러나 행복했던 순간을 갈망하며 시간은 오랫동안 당신과 함께합니다; 치유하기에도 오랜 시간이 걸립니다.
즐거웠던 순간들의 인상들은 당신 안에서 갈망의 원인이 되고  갈망들은 쉽게 가버리지도 않습니다.
그런 이유로, 현명한 이들은 모든 상황들이 즐겁지 않음을 보게 됩니다-행복하거나 불행하거나 지나갔기 때문입니다.
당신은 어떻게 생각하십니까? 거의 모든 이들이 저와 동의하실 것입니다.

*
내려놓기의 예술입니다*

이상한 것은, 우리의 마음은 상황들을 내려놓고 싶지 않은 것입니다.
최근에  남자분이 아트 오브 리빙 선생님이 되셨습니다. 아트 오브 리빙 선생님이 되면서, 더 이상 자신의 연민이 허용되지 않습니다.
당신이 자신을 불쌍히 여긴다면, 어떻게 다른 사람에게 행복을 가져다   있습니까? 만약 의사가 만성병을 앓고 있다면,  의사는 당신을 수술할 수 없습니다.
가능하지 않습니다.
지금, 이 사람이 다른 사람들로부터 연민과 동정심에 익숙해져 있고. 그것은 그를 기분좋게 하는데 익숙해져 있습니다. 모든 사람들이 그에게 많은 동정과 주시를 합니다.
선생님이 되고서야 잘라낼  있었습니다- 사람들이 그의 고통을 불쌍하게 여기는 것으로 받는 기쁨을 내려놓는 것은 아주 어려운 일입니다.
제가   모든 것을 얘기 합니까?
그것은 제가 당신이 마음이 어떻게 움직이는지 보게 되기를 원하기 때문입니다.
마음은 관심을 부르는 이유로 불쾌했던 일들로 엮이기를 원하게 됩니다.
사람들이 당신을 불쌍히 여긴다면, 어떤 면에서 당신은 즐겁습니다.
어렸을 때를 돌아보면, 당신은 때로 관심을 받았습니다.
아이가 울기 시작하면 모든 사람들이 와서 관심을 보입니다. 그들은 아이에게 “울지 말라”고 말합니다. 아이는 사탕이나 갖고 싶었던 장난감을 얻게 됩니다.
어떤 면에서 이런 것이 당신 안에 내가 짜증을 내거나 비참해지면서 나는 얻고자 하는 것을 얻을 것이란 것이 인지되어 있습니다.
이런 것들이 인상으로 마음에 만들어지는 상황들입니다. 지혜란 당신을 모든 인상으로부터 벗어나게 합니다. 그러면서 시간과 함께 흘러가게 됩니다.
사실상 당신은 시간에 앞서 가며- 이것이 바로 지혜입니다.

*
하루 하루 새해  날처럼 축복합니다*

 새해를 당신의 마음을 달라 붙지 않는 팬으로 만들어, 신선하고 새로운 팬케이크를 즐기십시요.
그리고 과거에 당신이 팬을 전혀 닦지 않았음을 기억하지도 마십시요; 이미 지나가 버렸습니다. 이런 의미에서 매일 매일 당신을 위한 새해 첫날입니다, 매일같이 축복입니다.
오늘은 오늘입니다. 달력이나 계산이 더 이상 존재하지 않습니다.
당신이 행복할 때, 당신은 늙어가고 있음을 느끼지 못합니다. 당신은 시간에 끌려가고 있음을 느끼지 못합니다.
당신은 전혀 시간을 느끼지 못합니다- 수백만 년이 될 수도 있습니다; 아무 것도 당신을 건드리거나 흔들지 못하고  당신은 아무 계획도 없습니다.  계획이 있더라도, 시간은 시간은 아주 빠르게 흐릅니다.
시간이 빠르게 흐를 , 그것은 또한
정정함이기도 합니다.
당신이 깨어난 아침에, 단순히 앉아 어떻게 사간이 멈추어 있는지 느껴봅니다.
시간이 멈추어 있을 때, 그것이 명상입니다.
시간이 빨리 흘러갈 , 당신은 시간을 느끼지 못하고, 그것이 Karma Yoga(카르마 요가) 것입니다. 그리고 시간이 머물러 있게 되면 그것이 Dayan Yoga (다이얀 요가), 명상입니다.
보십시요. 당신이 시간의 정정함에 익숙하지 않게 되면,
당신은 단지  시간에만 움직인다면, 당신은 우울해 질 것입니다. 우리는  양쪽- 달리는 것과 정정함- 즐길 수 있는 크나  능력이 있습니다.
당신이 나이 들어 가면서, 몸은 한계가 있게 됩니다. 당신이 정정할 능력이 없게 되면 짧은 시간이라도 정정함을 즐길  없다면, 당신은 무료함을 느끼고, 혼돈되며,  우울해 집니다.
이것이 흔히 일어나는-아주 활동적인 사람들은 그들의 몸이  이상 활발하지 못할 ,  그들은 정정해  수도 없는 것입니다.
이것이 당신의 마음이  이상 시간과 함께 하지 않은 것입니다. 그리하여 당신의 마음이 시간과 함께 해야 하는 것입니다. 마음이 시간과 함께 하면서, 정정해   있습니다.

지혜와 함께 행복이 옵니다. 당신은 모든 이들에게 특별하게; 새해  많이 받으시길 기원할 필요가 없습니다.
행복은 지혜와 함께 옵니다.
지혜가 행복을 불러오지 못하면, 아무것도 행복을 가져다 주지 못합니다.
지혜는 진정한 의미의  최상의 행복을 가져옵니다.
그래서 모든 이들에게 지혜로 채워진 한 해를 기원합니다.

질문: 어떻게 지혜를 향상시킬  있습니까?
지혜란 당신이 읽는 책이 아닙니다. 지혜는 팽창된 의식의 상태입니다.
당신의 마음이 - 집착하지 않은 상태,  차이지 않은 상태인, 비어 있고  텅 빈 상태로 되는 것입니다.

당신이 지혜를 생각하는 순간에, 당신은 책을 읽는다고 생각하지만, 아닙니다.
그것은 단지 정보일 뿐입니다. 지혜란 정정한 상태와 상황들에 얽히지 않는 상태입니다.
